The Amatola Mountains near Stutterheim are clad with lush indigenous forest and capped with flower-rich mountain grassland. They have a special beauty and serenity - a place to relax and enjoy. Clear streams tumble over waterfalls in the depths of the forest, which is carpeted with ferns and flowers. The forest trails are a special experience and start five minutes from your door at the picnic site.
The forest roads are perfect for mountain biking, walking or pony trails, whilst there is excellent hiking on the mountains themselves, including the Amatola Trail. The birding is extraordinary, including the Cape Parrots, Robins, Orange Thrush and the Cape Black Cap.
For angling, nearby Gubu Dam is home to trout for superb fly-fishing, whilst bass are available at
Wriggleswade Dam, together with swimming, sailing and boating. Stutterheim also boasts a
magnificent Country Club where golf, tennis and squash are available.
